My Story

I started Planted Places because I think it’s important to spend time doing things that make you happy, creating something you think is amazing and that you can be proud of. I believe everyone has creativity within them, and whether it’s outlet is through gardening, cooking, writing, welding - the list is endless; people love to create, but many of us don't even know it.

For me, Planted Places gives me the opportunity to create and transform empty spaces into beautiful, growing, living spaces. I’m passionate about helping others to do the same thing. I love gardening and I want others to be able to experience and explore their own inner gardener. We make it easy for people to create amazing garden displays, with the materials that we provide.

I talk to a lot of people who say they love plants and gardens, but have no idea where to start, and even worry that they’ll kill their plants; but once they get their hands on a Planted Places garden kit, they realize building their garden becomes much less intimidating. It’s fun to see the end result - what once was a blank wall or boring space, now becomes a gathering place for people to enjoy and marvel at. Gardening can be intimidating to people but it doesn’t have to be.  What I do is break it down and make it easy for people to create a garden that is their own piece of living art.

Here’s how we do it ... whether it’s a small framed succulent display, or a larger Living Wall, we bring all the pieces together - live succulents and plants, unique designs, versatile planters, and care instructions so people can focus less on “am I doing it right?” and more on “I’m getting dirty, loving it, and creating something I can’t wait to show people.” I often have people tell me - “Christy, your garden kit was the perfect gift to send to my friend.  It’s unique, it was a fun experience for them to build, and they get to appreciate it everyday.”  I like to say “it’s the gift that keeps giving”.

It’s also just a great way to get outdoors, enjoy the environment and help to make your living space a more beautiful place. Once you have a garden, even if it is a vertical one, that you personally created — it’s amazing how much time you’ll spend there. You’ll find yourself enjoying more time in your planted space with friends and family, and that’s what it’s about after all.  Finding the space in life to enjoy your time - and taking part in making it a little more special, one garden at a time.
